Painted Hills
Most people's impression of Oregon is rainy and wet. In a way this is true, but it does not tell the whole story: most big cities in Oregon are on or near the Pacific Coast where the winds from the Pacific bring the rain, but the western two-thirds of the state lies in the rain shadow of the Cascades where the climate is much drier, and in the Painted Hills region, the climate is simply desert.
